AUM Sneaks Past UAH in Overtime on Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team closed out the regular season portion of the Spring Championship Series in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday, falling 2-1 in overtime at Auburn Montgomery. UAH falls to 1-1-2 (1-1-2 Gulf South Conference), while AUM improves to 2-0-1 (2-0-1 GSC).
 
Turning Points
-The Chargers opened the scoring early as Rafa Moreno assisted on Michael Weston's ninth minute goal which put UAH ahead 1-0, and that lead would stay through the halftime break.
-In the 56th minute, AUM was awarded a penalty kick which Renan Diniz converted to level the contest at 1-1.
-Following a scoreless remainder of regulation, the Warhawks would win the game with just 46 seconds remaining in the first overtime period as Phillip Spickenbaum scored.
 
Inside the Box Score
-AUM outshot the Chargers by a 19-11 margin, but UAH enjoyed a 6-4 edge in attempts that were on target.
-The hosts earned seven corners, while the Chargers tallied five.
-It was a physical game with 42 fouls whistled, and the referee issued 11 cautions.
-Each of Weston, Moreno, Ethan Wilson, and Justin Alacantara had a pair of shots for the Chargers.
-Giancarlo Martinez recorded a pair of saves in the setback.
 
Noteworthy
-The goal for Weston is his first of the year and fourth of his career.
-Moreno's point total improves to five with his first assist of the season.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will wait to see what its postseason plans will be as the Chargers currently sit second in the SCS Group B.
