Chargers Secure Postseason Home Game in Senior Night Romp Past Shorter

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team secured a postseason home game on Friday night while also celebrating its large senior class with a 19-2 victory over Shorter at Charger Park. UAH improves to 5-7 (3-3 Peach Belt Conference), while the Hawks fall to 2-9 (0-5 PBC).
 
Turning Point
-After the Hawks scored the first goal of the game, the Chargers would tally the next seven and not look back the rest of the way.
 
Inside the Box Score
-Luke LeVette led the Chargers as he fired off 16 shots of which eight were on goal on his way to scoring six and adding an assist for seven points.
-Brody Phillips matched the seven points as he scored once while assisting six times.
-Logging four points from two goals and two assists was Preston Deno, while both James Cox and Caleb Merrow had three points with Cox notching two goals and an assist and Merrow recording a goal and two assists.
-Josh Campbell rounded out UAH's multi-goal-scoring contingent with a pair.
-Each of Parkie Davie, Jacob Glen, Kayden Hendrickson, Bryant Baus, and Bryce Ferraro scored a goal in the game, while Jake LeVette and Jake Scrhamm had an assist.
-Both Luke LeVette and Joseph Stuber led the team with five ground balls, while Connor Evers established a program record with six caused turnovers.
-Zak Welsh made 16 saves in the cage in earning the win.
 
Inside the Flow
-Six of the aforementioned seven straight in response to the opening marker from Shorter came in the first quarter as the Chargers took a 6-1 lead into the second period.
-After the teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the period to make it 7-2, UAH would finish the second by scoring four in a row to own an 11-2 advantage at the half.
-The Chargers scored three times in the third and five more times in the fourth to create the 19-2 final.
 
Noteworthy
-The six caused turnovers for Evers surpasses the previous UAH single-game high of five which Colton Nall had against Embry-Riddle on Feb. 16, 2018.
-Luke LeVette's six-goal performance is the eighth time the senior has recorded at least six goals in a game in his career.
-The six assists for Phillips is the second-best single-game total by a Charger, ranking behind his own program record of eight which he had against Shorter on April 3.
-Welsh now has 160 saves on the season.
-A total of 34 Chargers saw action in the contest.
-UAH honored its 12 seniors prior to the contest.
 
Next Time Out
-UAH will return to action on Wednesday in the PBC tournament semifinals as the No. 2 seed, welcoming in third-seeded Lander. More information including a start time will be released as it is available.
