HUNTSVILLE | The No. 17 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team made it two straight series sweeps while extending its winning streak to seven game as the Chargers defeated Lee 9-1 in five innings at Charger Park on Saturday. -A five-run fourth that featured three homers – including one of the inside-the-park variety – pushed the Chargers in front by a commanding six-run advantage.
Inside the Box Score
-The Chargers outhit the Flames by a 10-3 margin.
-Eight different Chargers had a hit including
Ashley Cornell and
Kiara Akles who both had a pair.
-Both of the hits for Akles were for extra bases as she had a double and a home run while driving in four, while Cornell also had a double.

Alaina Hampton and
Lila Young had the team's other two home runs.
-Akles went the distance in the circle, giving up just the three hit while striking out two and not allowing an earned run in five innings.
Key Plays
-After an error allowed the Flames to claim an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Akles would double in
Shelby Booker and
Mackenzie Nutt singled in Akles to put the Chargers in front 2-1 in the home half of the first.
-The score would remain that way until the fourth when
Lila Young would open the scoring by knocking one to the deepest part of the park, and though the Lee centerfielder would make a terrific leaping effort, the ball would carom away from her, permitting Young to scamper all the way home.
-Later in the inning, Akles hit an absolute bomb down the left field line that landed well past the fence for a three-run homer, and Hampton made it back-to-back jacks as her solo shot lifted the Chargers in front 7-1.
-UAH would close out the game early as Cornell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before pinch-hitter
Kelly Ann Sanders drew a walk to force in the ninth run and create the 9-1 final.
Noteworthy
-Akles now has 34 RBI on the season which leads the Chargers and is tied for the top spot in the GSC.
-Cornell finished the weekend going 9-for-11 with six runs, and she has now scored 22 times on the year.
-Akles improves to 4-2 in the circle.
-UAH is now 16-3 all-time against Lee and has won six straight against the Flames.
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be back in action on April 11 when the team travels to Young Harris for a nonconference doubleheader that is slated for a 12 p.m. CDT start.
