HUNTSVILLE | The Peach Belt Conference announced the annual award winners for men's lacrosse on Friday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville placed five players on the all-conference team including the PBC Freshman of the Year.
Â
Silas Herman earned the accolade as the league's top freshman while also landing on the All-PBC Team at his specialist position, and he was joined on the all-conference list by
Josh Campbell,
Josh Hardin,
Luke LeVette, and
Brody Phillips.
Â
Also honored on Friday was
Jacob Glen who earned the Elite 16 Award presented by EAB for having the top GPA in the 2021 PBC Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament.
Â
Herman has excelled in face-offs this year, leading the PBC with his winning percentage mark of 56.1 percent as he has gone 141-for-249 on the season, and he also leads the Chargers with 60 ground balls which ranks him tops in the conference in ground balls per game.
Â
Campbell ranks third on the team with 17 goals while also adding two assists to total 19 points from his midfield position, and seven of his goals have come in man-up situations, and that total is the 11th-best mark in all of Division II. For good measure, Campbell has totaled 25 ground balls which ranks fourth for UAH.
Â
Hardin has been a stalwart for UAH defensively, causing 11 turnovers while also picking up 27 ground balls which ranks third on the team. Previously selected as an All-GLVC Honorable Mention choice in 2018, the senior has been a key member of a UAH defensive effort that has given up 135 goals on the year which ranks second in the PBC in fewest goals scored by the opposition.
Â
LeVette – who was twice named to the All-GLVC team when the Chargers played in that conference – ranks third in the league and leads UAH with 33 goals on the season, and he has added seven assists to total 40 points. For his career, the senior has scored a program-record 143 times which ranks fourth among active NCAA Division II players.
Â
Phillips leads the Chargers in points with 48 as he has scored 21 times while also adding a single-season program record 27, and the assist total is the best in the PBC by far as the second-ranked player has 18. The junior had an especially strong performance against Shorter back on April 3 when he set the UAH single-game records for assists (eight) and points (12).
Â
UAH's all-conference honorees and their teammates will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Montevallo in the title game of the 2021 PBC Championship tournament. The Falcons swept the season series, winning 15-9 in Huntsville before the teams played to a more narrow 13-11 decision in Montevallo on April 17.
Â
The championship game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
