UAH's Postseason Run Concludes with Final Setback to Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team put up a valiant fight on Saturday but came up just short to host Montevallo in the final of the 2021 Peach Belt Conference Championship tournament, dropping a 12-10 decision. UAH ends the year at 6-8, while the Falcons close out the season at 10-4.

UAH found itself down 12-7 with 9:07 left in the game after a pair of UM goals, but Brody Phillips would score at the 6:54 mark, followed by Emory Weaver with 3:22 left and Josh Campbell just over a minute later to pull the Chargers within two at 12-10.

The Blue and White then peppered the Montevallo goal, forcing Kyle Little into making four saves while firing off an additional pair of shots in the final two minutes while not allowing the Falcons to register an attempt during the same time period, but Little's strong showing – he finished the contest with 20 saves – would help hold UAH at bay.

UAH struck first on the day as Preston Deno scored just 1:20 into the contest, and after a pair of Falcon goals put the hosts on top, Deno would score again in the final minutes of the first to the game at 2-2 going into the second.

The Falcons would then outscore UAH 5-1 in the period with Phillips getting the lone Charger tally as the top-seeded hosts took a 7-3 lead at the break, and though UAH would chip away at the deficit with Reid Vender scoring twice and Campbell adding another in the third, a Montevallo goal just prior to the conclusion of the period had the Chargers down 10-6 going into the fourth.

Jacob Glen would score the final period's opening goal at the 10:43 mark, but the Falcons would get two goals less than 50 seconds apart to give them a 12-7 cushion that UAH could not overcome.

Phillips finished the contest with three points as he added an assist to his two goals, and he concludes the season leading the Chargers with a single-season program record 51 points.

Deno, Campbell, and Vender all scored two goals in the game, while Kyle Light chipped in with a pair of assists. Glen and Weaver finished with a goal, and Greyston Stevens logged an assist.

Zak Welsh made 12 saves in the cage while taking the setback.
