Chargers Stumble in Road Setback at North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. | A pair of quick goals to start the second half proved to be the difference on Friday night as The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team fell on the road at North Georgia by a 3-2 score. The Chargers fall to 1-1-1 on the season, while UNG improves to 3-0-0.

The Chargers opened the scoring in the contest as Sander van der Sluijs tallied his second of the year as a ball from Rafa Moreno sent the Oostzaan, Netherlands, native in one-on-one with the UNG keeper, giving UAH an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.

A 17th-minute strike from Donovan Odier leveled the contest, and after it was 1-1 at the half, Odier needed just 64 seconds to put the Nighthawks up 2-1 in the 47th.

Odier would complete his hat trick in the 51st, lifting the hosts in front 3-1.

The Chargers had a quick response with Deivi Bucio pulling the visiting side within one in the 57th, and though UAH would generate several strong chances the rest of the way, the Blue and White could not find the equalizer.

The goal for Bucio marks the second of his career and first since he tallied against West Alabama on Oct. 25, 2018.

The Chargers will now turn their attention to Gulf South Conference action play which begins on the coast next week, starting with a Friday match at West Florida. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
