UAH Plays to 0-0 Season-Opening Draw with Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE | Opening the season with a tough-fought draw against a Division I foe, The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team tied 0-0 with visiting crosstown opponent Alabama A&M on Thursday night at Charger Park. UAH begins the season at 0-0-1, while AAMU is now 0-3-1.

UAH dominated the shot counter in the game, firing off 21 shots to the eight that the visitors registered, and the Chargers also enjoyed a 9-4 edge in attempts that were on frame.

The home side's first strong attempt on goal came in the 32nd minute when Devyn Thompson delivered a strong free kick that the A&M keeper was able to stop, and it would represent the second of two shots on goal for the Blue and White in the opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, UAH outshot the Bulldogs by an 11-3 margin, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal, but it was A&M who almost won it in regulation as a shot in the 88th minute went off the left post to keep it scoreless and ultimately force overtime.

In the first overtime period, the Chargers nearly ended the game as Melanie Brannon hit the crossbar in the 95th minute.

Both teams would have a shot on target in the second period of overtime, but neither could be the other's keeper to end the game in the 0-0 draw.

On the night, Carmen Endicott paced the Chargers with seven shot attempts, and her team-best two shots on goal were matched by Caroline Buchanan and Laura Hasani.

Adriana posted three saves in earning her third career clean sheet.

The Chargers will be back in action on Thursday, Sept. 9, when the team travels to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on Trevecca Nazarene.
