Chargers Roll to 108-67 Win Saturday at Shorter

ROME, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team cruised on Saturday, blowing past host Shorter by a 108-67 score. The Chargers improve to 10-6 (3-4 Gulf South Conference), while the Hawks fall to 3-10 (0-8 GSC).

Four different Chargers reached double figures in the contest including a pair that breached the 20-point mark led by Chaney Johnson who finished the afternoon going 9-for-11 from the floor on his way to scoring 22 while also grabbing five rebounds, handing out two assists, and collecting a steal.

Max Shulman knocked down six of his 10 3-point attempts to score 21, and he also led the Chargers on the glass with seven rebounds.

Hitting five triples and scoring 17 was Luke Burnett, while CJ Williamson added 13 points and six boards.

The 108 points scored by the Chargers represent the most since the team scored 118 in a triple overtime game at West Georgia on Jan. 15, 2018.

UAH would open the game with the first five points before falling behind 11-7 at the 16:23 mark, but the Chargers would take control of the contest over the next 8:28, outscoring the hosts by a 34-13 margin thanks to a stretch in which UAH was 11-for-15 overall and 8-of-10 from downtown while also only turning the ball over once.

The lead would grow to as many as 23 in the opening half as UAH shot 73.3 percent on its 3-point attempts en route to holding a 63-44 edge at the half.

It was more of the same in the second half as the lead reached the 30s at 85-53 after a Dalton Dodd triple at the 12:12 mark, and UAH would lead by as many as 42 before securing the 108-67 final.

For the game, the Chargers shot 60.9 percent and was 63.0 percent from 3-point land which is the highest mark this season by the team, and the squad held the Hawks to a 40.7 percent shooting mark.

The guests won the rebounding battle by a 37-26 advantage, and thanks to forcing Shorter to turn it over 19 times, the Chargers enjoyed a 27-12 margin in points off turnovers.

UAH now returns home for a pair of home games next week, starting with a Thursday night visit from Christian Brothers. Tip-off at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall is slated for 7:30 p.m.
