UAH Hosts Three GSC Matches This Week Starting Tuesday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team is back at home with three Gulf South Conference matches at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall beginning on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against No. 14 West Florida. UAH additionally hosts Christian Brothers on Friday at 6 p.m. and Union on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
The Chargers enter the three-match homestand with a 7-10 overall record a 3-3 mark in GSC contests so far in 2022, after wrapping up a road swing with a 3-1 win at Auburn Montgomery on Saturday.
 
Senior Shayla Libby has been the Chargers leading defensive player again this season, as she rates sixth in the conference with 4.13 digs per set with 256 total digs in 2022.
 
She has additionally been one of the GSC's best servers this year with 36 service aces to rate second in the conference.
 
Gracie McGee has recorded 10 or more kills in eight matches this season to boast a team-leading 154 kills which ranks in the top 10 of the GSC. McGee is also active defensively as she rates second on the squad with 146 total digs.
 
West Florida starts out the week with a 14-4 overall record that includes a 6-1 mark in GSC play, after a 3-0 win at home over Montevallo on Saturday. The Argonauts offense features four players with 100 or more kills led by Avery Rodgers' 189, while Meg Brackhan paces the UWF defense with 225 digs.
 
Christian Brothers currently owns a 3-9 overall record with a 2-4 mark in league matches, following a 3-2 victory over West Alabama last Thursday. Maddi Rowley guides the Bucs offense with 133 kills, while both Tia Rizvi (144 digs) and Kimmy Hammond (143 digs) lead the CBU defense.
 
Union starts out the week first in the GSC standings with a 6-0 record in conference games to go with a 13-4 overall mark, after a 3-1 win against Mississippi College on Saturday. Emily Grace Calhoon's team-high 166 kills guides the Bulldogs offense, while Sydney Sample leads the way defensively with 252 digs.
 
UAH holds all-time series records of 8-30 against UWF, 35-21 against CBU, and 13-5 against UU.
 
After this week's matches, UAH looks ahead to participating in the GSC-SSC Crossover on Oct. 14-15 at the Finley Center in Hoover, Alabama.
