HUNTSVILLE | The No. 24 University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team topped visiting Saint Leo by a final score of 65-57 on Friday night at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in nonconference action as part of the Bill Penney Toyota Crossover Classic. UAH moves to 2-1, while SLU sits at 0-1.

The Chargers were led by a stellar shooting display by
Luke Burnett, who poured in a team-best 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 7-for-10 from beyond the arc. He also added one assist and one rebound in a team-high 37 minutes on the floor.

Chaney Johnson rated second on the team with 17 points on Friday, as he also registered four rebounds and four assists across 28 minutes.

Max Shulman grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with seven points in the nonconference tilt.

Jack Kostel had an efficient performance for the Chargers, putting up nine points on 2-of-2 shooting with a team-best five assists and zero turnovers.

Saint Leo held the edge in the first half for a 30-21 lead at the break, as the Lions were able to hold the Chargers to eight made shots in the opening period.

UAH was guided in its second half comeback by five of Burnett's seven three-pointers on the night, as he gave the Chargers a 43-40 edge with 11:55 remaining on his sixth triple of the contest.

The Blue & White went on to outpace the Lions 25-17 for the rest of the second half to earn the 65-57 home-opening victory on Friday night.

The Chargers continue play at the Bill Penney Toyota Crossover Classic on Saturday with a 4 p.m. matchup with Tampa. Montevallo and Saint Leo will precede the UAH contest at 2 p.m.
