PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville fifth-seeded volleyball team fell to fourth-seeded Montevallo by a score of 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 22-25, 18-25) in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships on Friday on the campus of top-seeded West Florida. UAH ends its season at 16-16, while UM improves to 19-13.

Freshman
Caroline Moyer led the UAH attack with 13 kills on the day, followed by junior
Gracie McGee with 11 successful swats.

Kiara Hill generated a team-leading .429 hitting percentage on eight kills, as she also tied for the team lead with two total blocks.

Savannah Rutledge helped guide the Chargers offense with a team-high 32 assists to go along with 14 digs in the match for a double-double. She recorded three double-doubles with digs and assists this season.

Tatiana Bonilla anchored the Chargers defense with a roster-best 19 digs, with Rutledge rating second defensively with her 14 scoops.

The Chargers came from behind to win the opening set by a score of 25-23, as the squad went on a 4-0 run to overtake the Falcons for a 23-20 lead late.

Montevallo would end the second set on a six-point rally to even the match on the 25-17 win in the frame, and the Falcons would go on to take the ensuing two sets 25-22 and 25-18 for the GSC tournament quarterfinal victory.

UM now moves on to play first-seeded West Florida on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the semifinal round.
