Chargers Host Cougars in Nonconference Tilt Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball team hosts Columbus State on Sunday at 4 p.m. in nonconference action at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.

General admission attendance is free this regular season, courtesy of Bill Penney Toyota. Single game tickets for reserved seating are also available.

UAH enters the matchup on Sunday with a 3-8 overall record and a 3-5 record within the Gulf South Conference, after dropping a road contest at West Georgia on Thursday.
 
Haley Nichols has been the Chargers leader in the 2022-23 campaign as she paces the team with 13.1 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 58.4 percent from the floor.
 
She has scored 10 or more points in seven consecutive games, and she now ranks ninth in the GSC in scoring. Nichols additionally rates fifth in the league with her 8.4 rebounds per game.
 
Ninth-year head coach Andrea Lemmond has relied on an infusion of youth this season, with freshmen Andie Flatgard and Madie Krieger leading the team in minutes with 35.9 minutes per game and 35.0 minutes per game, respectively.
 
Flatgard has played well thus far in her time on the floor, leading the team with 24 assists and 11 steals while putting up 7.5 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game. She has earned GSC Freshman of the Week once so far.
 
Columbus State comes into Sunday with a 6-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in Peach Belt Conference play, following a 76-64 win at home over Lander on Thursday. The Cougars feature four players scoring 10 points or more per game led by Emilia Tenbrock at 12.0, while the CSU defense holds teams to 64.2 points per game.
 
UAH holds a 4-4 all-time record against Columbus State, with the Cougars winning the most recent matchup last season in Columbus, Georgia, by a score of 63-55.
 
After Sunday's matchup, UAH will return from the holiday break with two games at home with visits from Christian Brothers on Dec. 31 and Union on Jan. 2.
