UAH Soars Past Asbury for Sunday Nonconference Victory

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team won 90-84 over visiting Asbury on Sunday afternoon at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in nonconference action. UAH improves to 11-3, while AU slips to 10-3.
 
UAH was guided by a trio of players with 10 points or more in the win over Asbury, led by Chaney Johnson with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds, one assist and on block.
 
Daniel Saylor registered a team-high eight rebounds in addition to 10 points, as he nearly achieved a double-double. Saylor also added three assists and one block in a strong all-around performance.
 
Dalton Dodd rounded out the Chargers in double-digit scoring with 10 points, while also notching six rebounds and a pair of assists.
 
UAH shot 48.5 percent (33-68) from the field and 42.4 percent (14-33) on three-pointers, while limiting AU to 38.3 percent (31-81) from the field overall on Sunday.
 
The Blue & White additionally held the edge over Asbury in points off turnovers (12-10), bench points (48-27), and points in the paint (38-22).
 
The Chargers offense was clicking on all cylinders in the opening half, as the squad shot 60.0 percent (21-35) overall in the half including a 9-for-19 mark from beyond the arc on the way to a 58-38 advantage through 20 minutes.
 
Johnson paced UAH in the opening half with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds.
 
Despite the Eagles outscoring the Chargers 46-32 in the second half, UAH hung on for the 90-84 victory on Sunday.
 
The Chargers are back in action following the holiday break with matchups on Dec. 31 against Christian Brothers and Jan. 2 against Union. Both games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
