UAH Tops Shorter for Sixth Straight Win at Home

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team won its sixth consecutive home game on Sunday with a 71-51 victory over visiting Shorter at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 8-2 (4-1 GSC), while SU slides 3-6 (1-4 GSC).
 
Dalton Dodd had a stellar overall performance for the Chargers as he posted 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field to go along with a roster-best eight rebounds and two assists.
 
CJ Williamson led the Chargers offense overall with 12 points as he went 6-of-10 from the floor, followed by CJ Johnson's 11 points and Dodd and Jack Kostel with 10 points apiece.
 
The Chargers shot 52.0 percent (26-50) from the field on Monday that included a 35.7 percent mark (10-28) from beyond the arc. UAH's defense combined for eight steals, with four players notching two in the win.
 
The initial 10 minutes of the matchup was tightly contested between the Chargers and Hawks with the game tied 18-18 with 8:48 remaining, but UAH would close out the half on a 19-6 run to own a 37-24 lead at halftime.
 
A total of nine Chargers notched at least one assist in the first half, as 12 of UAH's 13 shots were assisted in the opening 20 minutes of action. Kostel and Luke Burnett finished tied for the team lead with three assists against Shorter.
 
UAH maintained its lead throughout the second half by outpacing Shorter 34-27 in the period to complete the 71-51 victory on Monday.
 
The Chargers hit the road for two games in the Magnolia State next weekend with matchups at Delta State on Friday and Mississippi College on Sunday.
