HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team picked up the first win in the
Akasha Kasper era on Friday night, defeating visiting Rhodes 20-11 on a cold evening at Charger Park. The Chargers improve to 1-2 with the win, while the Lynx start the year at 0-1.

Isadora Springer had a big night for the Chargers in the victory, scoring five times and adding an assist to total six points, while both
Katie Gerber and
Hailey Gallant both had four points in the game from three goals and one assist.

Gerber also picked up a team-best seven ground balls while causing a team-high five turnovers, while Gallant led the Chargers with 11 shots of which 10 were on target.

A trio of Chargers registered three points in the game with both
Katie Williams and
Anastasia Lajoie scored twice and picked up an assist while
Ryleigh Casserly handed out a pair of helpers in addition to scoring a goal.Â

Cara Brown added two scores, and both
Bryanna Hamblin and Alison Sommerfeld had a goal each.

The Chargers split the time in goal between
Shaina Doser who played the first half and recorded a pair of saves, while
Tori Ryan earned the win by stopping three shots in the final two periods.

Springer scored the game's first goal, but the Lynx would tally twice to go up 2-1 just under six minutes into the contest. From that point, UAH scored three straight to end the quarter, taking a 5-2 advantage into second which started with three more in a row to give the hosts a 7-2 advantage at the 6:56 mark.

After Rhodes finished the quarter with three consecutive of its own to create a 7-5 score in favor of the Chargers at the half, and the guests would score three of the first four to start the third to tie the game at 8-8.Â

UAH then took complete control of the contest, scoring nine straight including three from Springer to grab a 17-8 lead at the 9:39 mark of the of the fourth quarter, and both teams would score three times in the final minutes to create the 20-11 final.

The Chargers outshot Rhodes by a 42-20 margin including a 35-16 edge in shots on goal, and UAH picked up 23 ground balls compared to 15 for the visitors.Â

UAH will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 26, when the squad travels to Mount Olive. That contest is slated for a 2 p.m. CT start.
