Chargers Earn Key Road Win at West Florida

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team earned a big road win on Saturday, defeating host West Florida 72-64 to complete the season sweep of UWF. The Chargers improve to 14-9 (7-7 Gulf South Conference), while the Argos fall to 15-7 (9-6 GSC).

CJ Williamson was terrific once again, going 11-for-17 from the floor to score a game-best 25 points, and he also grabbed six rebounds, handed out a team-high four assists, and picked up a steal.

Logging his third career double-double and first of this season, Max Shulman scored 13 and led all players in the contest with 13 rebounds.

Luke Burnett scored 11 to round out UAH's double-figure scorers.

The Chargers roared out of the gates, nailing four 3-pointers in the first 90 seconds of the game en route to eventually holding a 13-0 lead, and by the 14:13 mark of the opening half, it was a 22-5 advantage for the Chargers. West Florida would chip away and narrow the gap to as few as six, but the guests held UWF scoreless for the last 4:11 of the half to take a 42-30 lead at the break.

After UAH's lead went to 15 early in the second half, the Argos would battle back once more, going ahead for the first time at 51-50 with 10:58 left in the game.

The hosts eventually would go up by four and held a 58-54 advantage at the 7:10 mark, but a 10-2 run that saw Williamson score all the points for UAH gave the Chargers a 64-60 lead with 1:21 remaining. UWF would briefly pull within two, but a Dane Harding triple and four more points from Williamson would help the Chargers hang on for the key road win.

UAH finished the game shooting 41.5 percent from the floor while holding the home team to a 36.5 percent mark overall and just 22.6 percent from 3-point land, but UWF did outrebound the Chargers by a 41-35 margin.

The Chargers finished the contest with 16 assists while turning the ball over just five times.

UAH will now head back home, welcoming Lee to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip-off. The Flames were 84-70 winners when the two teams met earlier this season.
