Chargers Drop Road Contest to No. 6 Florida Southern

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team took on its third nationally ranked opponent of the week Friday night, matching up with No. 6 Florida Southern, before ultimately dropping the road contest 18-8. The Chargers fall to 3-6 on the season, while the Mocs improve to 5-1.
 
Katie Gerber and Cara Brown each recorded hat-tricks to lead UAH on the score sheet on the evening while Katie Williams recorded a goal and an assist and picked up a roster-best three ground balls in the contest.
 
Morghan Kilduff registered the majority of minutes in goal for the Chargers, making four saves for the Blue & White.
 
Florida Southern was on the board first at the 12:34 mark of the opening quarter but would only hold the initial lead for two minutes after Katie Gerber scored her 16th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. However, the Mocs would go on to score eight unanswered to lead 9-1 at the first intermission. The Chargers would get second quarter goals from Gerber and Brown to outscore FSC 3-2 for the period, going into the halftime break trailing 11-4.
 
Florida Southern scored five in the third while UAH added one, and although the Chargers would outscore FSC in the final frame, the Mocs would go on to secure the 18-8 victory.
 
The hosts outshot UAH 31-24 on the night and narrowly won the battle for draw controls by a 14-13 margin.
 
UAH will now look ahead to Sunday, Mar. 27 when the team opens Gulf South Conference play against in-state foe Montevallo. The Falcons will pay a visit to the Rocket City to mark the 12th matchup between the two teams, with the Chargers having won all previous 11 meetings.
 
Sunday's contest is set for a 2 p.m. start.
