CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team dropped the series finale with host Lee on Sunday, falling 9-1 in five innings. The Chargers slip to 17-11 (7-8 Gulf South Conference), while the Flames improve to 15-13 (9-8 GSC).
Â
UAH had eight hits in the contest but would leave eight on base, while Lee had 11 hits in the game.
Â
The top of the Charger lineup was once again solid, as
Shelby Booker was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while both
Kaylee Vaught and
Kiara Akles also had a hit to give the 1-2-3 positions half of UAH's for the game.
Â
Vaught's hit was a double.
Â
Lila Young matched Booker with a pair of hits as she was 2-for-2.
Â
Akles started the game in the circle and was charged with the loss.
Â
Lee opened the scoring with a run in the first and added three in the second, and after a scoreless third, the hosts tacked on two more tallies to take a 6-0 lead through the first four innings.
Â
Vaught then led off the top of the fifth with a double before Booker singled her in to make it 6-1, but the Flames then had a three-run homer in the bottom frame to end the game with the 9-1 final.
Â
The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday when the team welcomes Montevallo to Charger Park for a non-conference tilt. That doubleheader is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
