UAH Secures 14-11 Victory Over Montevallo in Conference Opener

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 14-11 victory on Sunday afternoon at Charger Park taking on in-state foe Montevallo. The Chargers improve to 4-6 (1-0 Gulf South Conference) on the season, while the Falcons slip to 3-8 (0-2 GSC).

Cara Brown led UAH on the scoresheet on the afternoon with four goals on seven shots while Katie Gerber recorded a hat trick and an assist and controlled five draws. Katie Williams, Isadora Springer, and Hailey Gallant all turned in solid offensive performances as well with each tallying a pair of goals for the Chargers.

Shaina Doser registered the majority of minutes in goal for the Chargers, making eight saves for the Blue & White.

UAH was on the board first after a free position goal from Brown at the 14:05 mark of the opening quarter but would only hold the initial lead for just over a minute after the Falcons would score three in succession and take a 5-3 advantage into the first intermission. The Chargers offense would outscore the guests by a 4-2 margin in the second quarter, with goals from Brown, Gallant, Gerber, and Springer to level the game and have the affair all square at 7-7 going into the halftime break.

The Blue & White would go on top to open the second half, but the Falcons answered quickly for the game's fourth tie of the game at 8-8. However, UAH would use the third quarter to pull away, outscoring Montevallo 5-2 throughout the rest of the frame on its way to securing the 14-11 victory.

The hosts outshot UM 36-21 on the afternoon while UM narrowly won the battle for draw controls by a 14-13 margin.

UAH will now look ahead to Saturday, Apr. 2 when the team plays its second GSC contest of the season, taking on Lander. The Chargers will travel to Greenwood, S.C. for the second-ever matchup between the two teams, with the Chargers having won the last meeting by a 19-7 score.

Saturday's game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. CT start.
