HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team completed the Gulf South Conference series sweep of West Georgia with a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park. UAH improves to 20-21 (12-11 GSC), while UWG slides to 19-18 (9-14 GSC).

This is the Chargers second straight series sweep at home.

Wells Deloney was the star of the show in his fourth start on the mound this season, as the right-hander worked 7.1 innings with two runs allowed and eight strikeouts. He improves to 2-1 this season with the win.

Will Hotalen was credited with his second save of the 2022 campaign, after tossing the ninth inning with one strikeout.

The Chargers recorded six hits in the contest to go along with six walks, as
Garrett Bodine led the team with two hits while
Brennan Vasquez drew a team-high two walks.

Austin Reed notched the lone extra-base hit for the Chargers, which was a game-tying solo home run in the eighth.

West Georgia took the lead early with two runs in the second, prior to UAH cutting the deficit in half as Vasquez scored on a sacrifice fly by
Colin Brewer.

Reed's solo home run in the fifth inning tied the game at 2-2, with Bodine scoring a run later in the frame on a wild pitch to five the Chargers a 3-2 lead.

UAH notched an insurance run with
Jeff Hunter scoring from third on a balk, which was a critical run as UWG scored once in the ninth to bring the game to its 4-3 final score.

The Chargers finish off their four-game homestand on Tuesday with a 5 p.m. matchup against Young Harris at Charger Park.
