Chargers Throttle Visiting Hawks to Open PBC Play

HUNTSVILLE | Starting conference play with a rout, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team blew past visiting Shorter by an 18-4 score at Charger Park. UAH improves to 5-6 (1-0 Peach Belt Conference), while the Hawks fall to 3-9 (0-1 PBC).
 
The Chargers were led on the afternoon by Brody Phillips as he scored five times on six shots – all of which were on target – while also adding three assists to feature a team-best eight points.
 
Phillips now has 15 points in his last three games.
 
Conor Young had a four-point day with a goal and three assists, while both Reid Vender and Jake Schramm had three points with Vender scoring twice in addition to earning an assist and Schramm having two assists to go with a goal.
 
Each of Ian Arnt, Kyle Light, Josh Campbell, and Preston Deno had a goal and an assist, while Jake LeVette, Parker Davie, Richie Mohr, Paul Johnson, and Kayden Hendrickson had a goal.
 
Hunter Coleman was 9-for-11 in face-offs and picked up a team-best six ground balls.
 
The Chargers utilized three goalies in the game with Zak Welsh recording six saves while not allowing a goal and earning the win.
 
As a team, the hosts outshot Shorter by a 63-22 margin including a 40-14 difference in shots on goal, and the Chargers picked up 47 ground balls compared to just 20 for the visitors. UAH was also 23-for-25 in clears, while Shorter was 19-for-25.
 
UAH turned the ball over just four times in the first two quarter, roaring out to a 7-0 lead after the first period, and the team would hold a 12-0 advantage at the halftime break.
 
After three, the Chargers led 13-2, and the Blue and White outscored Shorter by a 5-2 margin in the fourth to create the 18-4 final.
 
UAH will return to action next Saturday when the team travels to Montevallo for a pivotal contest. That game is set for a 1 p.m. start.
