HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team will open play in the 2022 Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship on Friday, and the No. 1 seed Chargers will welcome fourth-seeded Lander to Charger Park at 7 p.m.

The Chargers are making their sixth appearance in the GSC tournament and have been in the tournament every year since its inception in 2016. In total, UAH is 7-3 in the event with five trips to the title game, and two championships.

This year's team enters the tournament at 9-6 overall and posted a 6-0 record in conference play to mark the first-ever time that the Chargers have gone undefeated in regular-season GSC play while claiming the first regular-season GSC championship in school history.

UAH has been led on the year by GSC Player of the Year
Cara Brown who paced the conference this season with 62 goals, and she's been on a torrid stretch as of late with 16 of those tallies coming in the last two games.
Katie Gerber and
Hailey Gallant have also been notable for the Charger offense, each racking up 46 points throughout the campaign. Leading the efforts on the other end of the field is GSC Defensive Player of the Year
Darby Smith. The stalwart for the UAH defense ranked first across the league with 44 ground balls and second across the conference causing 24 turnovers from opponents.

Lander visits Huntsville at 10-7, and the Bearcats were also 3-3 in the GSC this season.

Alyssa Suchan is LU's top point scorer as she's registered 30 goals and 40 assists for 70 points on the season.Â

UAH took the regular season meeting between the two programs, winning 19-12 in Greenwood, S.C. on Apr. 2, and the Chargers have matched up with Lander one other time where UAH claimed a 19-7 victory at Charger Park on Apr. 18, 2021.

The winner of Friday's contest will advance to the GSC Women's Lacrosse Championships title game which is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Charger Park.
