HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team wrapped up the 2022 regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against visiting West Alabama, as the Chargers took the first game 11-6 before also winning the series finale 7-3. UAH improves to 25-23 (16-13 GSC), while UWA slides to 15-34 (11-18 GSC).

The Chargers have officially clinched a berth to the 2022 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships for the third straight season. The GSC tournament will be held from May 6-10 in Oxford, Alabama, at Choccolocco Park.

UAH 11, UWA 6
The Chargers put together two substantial rallies with four runs in the second and five runs in the fifth to guide the squad to the 11-6 victory to seal the series win on Saturday afternoon.

Griffin Rivers had a standout performance in the win, going 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, a double and two stolen bases.

Garrett Bodine drove in a team-high four runs in a 1-for-4 day at the plate, while
Dylan Johnston and
Mitchell Rottier tied with Rivers for second on the team with two RBI.

Carson Villalta scored a roster-best three runs, while reaching base three times in the game.
Jackson Lindsey,
Brennan Vasquez and Rivers each had two runs as well.

Connor Brooks improved to 6-4 on the mound this season in his 13th start of 2022, as he tossed a season-high 8.0 innings with four earned runs allowed, zero walks and eight strikeouts.

UAH 7, UWA 3
West Alabama led for the majority of the contest, until a six-run rally by the Chargers in the bottom of the sixth propelled UAH to the 7-3 victory and the GSC series sweep.

Tyler Self started on the mound for the Blue & White, twirling a complete game with three runs allowed and nine strikeouts. He improves to 6-5 with the win.

The Chargers registered 13 base hits as a team, led by
Landon Ezzell who went 3-for-4 with one run scored.

UAH had two extra-base hits in the contest, including a solo home run by
Jeff Hunter and a double by
Will Noles. Hunter now has 10 home runs this season.

Both
Colin Brewer and Noles had two base hits in the contest, while
Carson Villalta had a team-high two RBI thanks to his go-ahead two-RBI single in the six-run sixth.

This was the Chargers third GSC series sweep at Charger Park this season as UAH won 12 straight at home dating back to March 13 win over Florida Southern.
