OXFORD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team survived an elimination game by topping first-seeded Delta State by a final score of 7-3 on day four of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships at Choccolocco Park. UAH improves to 28-24, while DSU slides to 32-15.

UAH moves on to play No. 8 seed Shorter on Tuesday at 11 a.m. for the chance to move on to the GSC tournament title game.

Kody Keiser made a sensational performance on the mound, twirling a complete game with three runs allowed, one walk and six strikeouts on 130 pitches. DSU only had one extra-base hit off the southpaw, as Keiser improves to 4-4 in 2022.

The Chargers offense only needed six base hits to score the seven runs on the afternoon, led by
Jeff Hunter who went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI.

UAH drew a total of nine walks in the contest, paced by
Carson Villalta with three free passes to go along with tying with
Brennan Vasquez for the team lead in runs with two each.

Mitchell Rottier was also had a successful day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one walk.

The Chargers went in front early with one run in the second, which was followed by another run in the third on a RBI single by Rottier.

DSU cut the UAH lead in half with one run in the bottom half of the third, before UAH scored one run once again in the fourth to extend the advantage to 3-1.

A two-run seventh by the Statesmen knotted the game at 3-3, before a four-run eighth inning by the Chargers – highlighted by Hunter's three-run home run – which put UAH ahead for good 7-3.

This was UAH's 21st all-time meeting with Delta State in the GSC tournament, as the Chargers are amidst the program's 20th appearance at the conference tournament.
