HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team started Gulf South Conference play for the 2022 campaign with a 3-1 victory (25-12, 25-19, 22-25, 2517) over West Alabama at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Friday. UAH improves to 5-7 (1-0 GSC), while UWA slides to 5-9 (0-2 GSC).

Gracie McGee led the Chargers offense in the match with nine kills, while also posting eight digs on the defensive end to rate third on the team.

Shayla Libby amassed a team-high seven service aces along with 10 digs, as she also chipped in four assists in the victory.

Colby Charland generated a double-double against West Alabama with a team-high 12 digs and 19 assists. She now posted a double-double with digs and assists in three straight matches.

The Chargers cruised through the first set with a 25-12 win in the frame, as UAH capitalized on 11 attacking errors by the Tigers. The Blue & White would win a back-and-forth set in the second 25-19 before dropping the third set by a 25-22 margin.

UAH stormed back to win the fourth set 25-17, thanks to a match-high .276 hitting percentage in the frame to seal the 3-1 victory.

This was the sixth straight win by UAH over West Alabama, increasing the all-time series record against the Tigers to 44-29.
