BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly women's soccer award winners, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Jayla Gillespie as GSC Freshman of the Week.
 
This is the first GSC Freshman of the Week award for Gillespie, and she is the first Charger to win a weekly honor from the GSC this season.
 
A native of Decatur, Alabama, Gillespie guided the Chargers to their first conference victory of the season with two goals in the 2-1 win over Delta State on Sunday.
 
In the win, she recorded her first career goal as well has her first career game-winning goal.
 
Overall, Gillespie recorded 113 minutes played over two games while notching four shots on goal with two apiece against Mississippi College and Delta State.
 
UAH looks ahead to two matches at home this weekend against Union on Friday at 5 p.m. and Christian Brothers on Sunday at 1 p.m.
