Three Former Chargers to be Honored by Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame

HUNTSVILLE | The Huntsville-Madison County Athletics Hall of Fame announced its 2024 class and special achievement awards, and UAH Athletics was represented by three former Chargers including Andy Blackston, Annette Fletcher and Bobby Pierce.
 
The Class of 2024 features a total of 12 honorees including Blackston and Fletcher. Pierce additionally will be honored by the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame with the Special Achievement Award.
 
Blackston received his first career head coaching position at UAH as the leader of the Chargers women's basketball team from 2001-03, after previously serving as assistant coach for UAH Athletics Hall of Famer Lennie Acuff on the men's basketball team from 1998-01.
 
He has gone on to coach at Austin Peay, locally at Madison Academy and at Brentwood Academy in Tennessee.
 
Fletcher was a member of the UAH women's basketball program from 1982-87, as she ended her career as the program's all-time leading scorer at 1,487 points and remained atop the record books until 2014. She was inducted into the UAH Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
 
Pierce was the first-ever coach in UAH baseball history, leading the Chargers to a record of 276-108 from 1996-2002. UAH went to the NCAA tournament four times in his tenure while winning the program's first Gulf South Conference title in 2001.
 
He went on to lead Troy's baseball program, where he has been the head coach since 2003.
 
The Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame banquet will be on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Von Braun Center. The class of 2024 was selected by a vote of the Hall of Fame board of directors based on nominations from the public.
