Les Stuedeman Achieves 1200 Win Milestone as UAH Sweeps UWF

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team completed the Gulf South Conference series sweep of West Florida with a 10-1 win in five innings followed by a 7-6 victory to wrap up the three-game set. UAH improves to 19-4 (8-1 GSC), while UWF slides to 8-10 (2-6 GSC).
 
UAH head coach Les Stuedeman achieved her 1200th career win in the first victory of the afternoon, as she becomes the fifth NCAA Division II coach and the 21st coach across all NCAA divisions to reach the milestone.
 
In her 28-year career at UAH, she has a record of 1201-406-1 for a career winning percentage of .747 which ranks tied for seventh in NCAA Division II history currently.
 
The Chargers are back in action on the road next weekend at Shorter to continue GSC play.
 
UAH 10, UWF 1 (Five innings)
The Chargers put together two or more runs in three of their four innings on offense, highlighted by a five-run bottom of the fourth that featured a grand slam by Laura Harbin on the way to the 10-1 win in five innings in game one on Saturday.
 
Harbin drove in a team-high four runs with her second home run of the season, while both Kinley Adams and Gracie Green rated second on the squad with two RBI. Adams additionally drew two walks and scored one run.
 
Maddie Cartron had the Chargers lone multi-hit performance in the victory, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jada Henderson scored a team-high three runs while also notching one hit, one RBI and two walks.
 
Katie Bracken picked up the win to improve to 6-0 this season, after tossing 5.0 innings with one earned run allowed and eight strikeouts.
 
UAH 7, UWF 6
The Chargers started off the contest with back-to-back, three-run rallies in the first and second innings which carried UAH to the 7-6 win in game two of the doubleheader after a late push by the Argonauts.
 
Kaylee Vaught launched her third home run of the season in the bottom of the first to put the Chargers ahead for good, as the senior went 2-for-2 with one run scored as well on the day.
 
UAH recorded 11 base hits as a team in the sweep-clinching win, led by Kinley Adams with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with one RBI and one run.
 
Lawren Hayes also had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI out of the lead-off spot.
 
Josie Thompson started on the mound for the Chargers, and turned in 4.2 innings with three runs allowed, zero walks and five strikeouts. She improves to 2-1 with the win.
 
Megan Shurtz picked up her first save of the season in 1.1 scoreless innings to close out the victory.
