No. 11 Chargers Edged in Series Finale at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The No. 11 University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team was edged in the Gulf South Conference series finale at Montevallo by a final score of 8-7 on Sunday afternoon. UAH slides to 16-4 (5-1 GSC), while UM improves to 7-10 (1-2 GSC).

The lead changed hands three times in the Sunday series finale at Montevallo, and the Falcons would withstand a late push by the Chargers to hang on for the 8-7 win.

Senior Kaylee Vaught was the Chargers standout offensive performer with a team-high four RBI in a 2-for-3 day at the plate, and she recorded at least one RBI in three of her four plate appearances on Sunday.

The Chargers notched two extra-base hits against the Falcons, highlighted by a solo home run in the seventh by Laura Harbin. Lila Young also had a double in the contest.

Lawren Hayes gave UAH two players with multi-hit performances as she went 2-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with two RBI and one run.

Grace O'Berry took the loss in her start in the circle to fall to 3-2 this season, after throwing 3.2 innings with six runs allowed and two strikeouts.

Katie Bracken worked 1.2 scoreless frames with one strikeout in a strong relief outing.

The Chargers are back at Charger Park next Saturday and Sunday against West Florida to continue GSC play.
