UAH Drops Final Game of Series at Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team dropped the final game of a weekend Gulf South Conference series at Delta State on Sunday afternoon. The Chargers fell to 19–15 (10-8 GSC), and the Statesmen improved to 17-17 (10-8 GSC).

The weekend marked the second road series win of the season for the Chargers, the first since their season-opening series win at Saint Leo in February.

An exceptional combination of pitchers from the Chargers did not prove to be enough in the series finale in Cleveland as the UAH scoring was held to just a single run, a solo home run in the first inning off the bat of Carson Villalta

At the plate, Garrett Bodine and Mitchell Rottier recorded a pair of base hits each, while Landon Ezzell and Villalta accounted for the only extra-base hits for the day.

Landon Singley got the nod to start Sunday's game and had UAH in the lead after four innings of work as he allowed three hits, gave up zero runs, and struck out one.

Trey Wright and Cory Hagood also provided scoreless pitching for the Chargers, as Wright pitched 2.1 innings, allowed two hits, and struck out three. Hagood pitched the final two-thirds of the eighth inning as he forced two flyouts.

The Chargers will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to take on Miles at 1 p.m.
