ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's lacrosse team is set to open play at the 2023 Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championships with a semifinal matchup as the second seed against third-seeded Lander on Friday at 2 p.m.

The Chargers enter the GSC tournament as the reigning GSC Champions, after winning the program's third consecutive conference title in the 2022 campaign.

This will be UAH's seventh time competing in the GSC tournament, as the squad is 9-3 overall in the league's postseason and have reached the championship game each year.

UAH and Lander are matched up in the opening round for the second year in a row, as the Chargers drubbed the Bearcats 19-9 in the semifinals last year. Overall, UAH holds a 4-0 all-time record against Lander.

The Blue & White earned the second seed in the GSC tournament with a 9-8 overall record and a 5-1 mark in conference play, after wrapping up the season with an 11-8 win at Lee on Saturday.

The Chargers offense is guided by a pair of 44-goal scorers who also earned All-GSC honors, including First Team honoree
Chloe Wood (44g-8a) and Second Team awardee
Isadora Springer (44g-3a). UAH's roster also featured four more All-GSC honorees including
Sarah Cole,
Cameron Crews,
Katie Gerber, and
Riley Kirby.

Crews and Kirby headline the UAH defense that has limited the opposition to 11.79 goals per game, as both players have accrued 20 caused turnovers or more.
Shaina Doser has been the Chargers primary goalie this season, posting 72 saves on a .389 save percentage to go along with a 10.87 goals against average.

Lander enters the first-round contest with a 10-6 overall record and a 4-2 mark in league play, which earned the Bearcats the third seed in the tournament. LU is led by a pair of 76-point scorers including Alyssa Suchan (53g-23a) and Emmy Peterson (50g-26a), while the Bearcats defense allows 11.97 goals per game.

The winner of Friday's matchup moves on to the GSC tournament championship game on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT against the winner of first-seeded Flagler and fourth-seeded Lee.

The 2023 Gulf South Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held April 28-30, hosted by the tournament's top-seeded team. The semifinals will take place Friday, April 28 with the championship game set for Sunday, April 30.
