Chargers Sweep GSC Foe Christian Brothers in Saturday Doubleheader

MEMPHIS | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team completed a sweep on Saturday afternoon with a pair of wins against a Gulf South Conference opponent Christian Brothers. The Chargers improved to 22-15 (13-8 GSC), while the Bucs fell to 15-26 (5-19 GSC).

The series sweep marks the third consecutive GSC series win for UAH and was their seventh win in eight games.

The Chargers return to action with a midweek road trip to Nashville to take on Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

G1: UAH 7, CBU 3

The Chargers got off to a quick start in the first game of the day as they put up two runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Brennan Vasquez.

Vasquez was not done for the day, as he knocked a solo homer in the fourth inning to give UAH a 4-2 lead that they would not surrender for the remainder of the contest.

In game one, there were six Chargers who contributed RBI, as Garrett Bodine, Carson Villalta, Landon Ezzell, Dylan Johnston, and Will Noles each notched one RBI, with Vasquez being the only player with multiple.

On the mound, Andre Orselli went the distance as he pitched all nine innings as he struck out seven with just two earned runs allowed on five hits. The graduate student from Lake Orion, Michigan, marked his second complete game of the season with the showing.

G2: UAH 6, CBU 3

The second game of Saturday's doubleheader saw another great pitching performance from the starter as Will Hotalen pitched 6.1 innings and struck out six CBU batters and surrendered just two hits.

UAH scored a pair of runs in the second, fifth, and seventh innings to propel themselves to the win. At the plate, three Charger batters recorded extra-base hits as Hunter Tillman, Mitchell Rottier, and Noles each contributed doubles to the winning cause.

Noles and Tillman's doubles each drove in a pair of RBI, while the remaining runs came off of sacrifice flies from Rottier and Vasquez.

Trey Wright earned the save for the Chargers in game two as he relieved Hotalen and Cole Loftis in the bottom of the seventh inning. Wright recorded the final two outs each by strikeout.
