Volleyball Opens GSC Play With Road Win

ROME, Ga. | The UAH volleyball team won a Friday night matchup in their 2023 Gulf South Conference debut against Shorter by a score of 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) on a road trip to Rome, Georgia. The Chargers improved to 5-3 (1-0 GSC), while the Hawks dipped to 3-5 (0-1 GSC).

The win marked the fourth straight victory for UAH.

The Chargers offense featured with double-digit kills on Friday night, led by Caroline Moyer's team-best 13 kills on the night.

 
Kiara Hill posted 11 kills on a .563 attack percentage, while Mary Grace Bundrant contributed four kills on a .429 attack percentage with two solo blocks and two block assists.
 
Autumn Mayes guided the defense with 12 digs on the night, followed by Hailey Holshouser with eight and Tatiana Bonilla with seven scoops apiece.
 
Savannah Rutledge helped lead the offense with 30 assists, while also adding one kill and four digs in an all-around performance.
 
UAH went ahead in the match in the opening set with a close first set that saw the Chargers take it 25-23 seizing on five blocks and 11 kills.
 
The Chargers took set two behind the power of 16 kills and two blocks in a 25-20 win. The third set was the widest margin of victory for UAH as they claimed the set 25-19 and the match.
 
UAH is back in action on Thursday when they hit the road again to take on Montevallo in their second GSC matchup of the year.
