HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team is set to host two matches this weekend as they prepare for their Gulf South Conference home opener.
On Friday, the Chargers will welcome West Georgia for a 6 p.m. matchup on Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Saturday, UAH will welcome another visitor from Georgia as they will play host to Valdosta State at 2 p.m.
UAH is returning to the court after a 3-1 loss on the road at Lee on Tuesday evening.
This season, the Chargers rank second in the GSC with 2.29 blocks per set, with
Mary Grace Bundrant holding the highest blocks per set total in the conference at 1.16.
Savannah Rutledge leads the GSC with 9.35 assists per set this year, with the next highest total being 7.79.
West Georgia enters the weekend at 7-5 (1-2 GSC) having won their last match against Shorter for their first conference win of the season. Kelli Kaiser leads the GSC in digs per set with 4.2 digs per set while Sanai Young leads the conference in attack percentage at .348.
Valdosta State comes into Huntsville at 11-4 (3-0 GSC) and are holders of a four-match winning streak. The Blazers lead the GSC in kills with 12.76 per set. Valdosta State also leads the league in blocks and digs, with 2.35 blocks per set and 17.48 digs per set.
Christina Pettigrew leads the way for the Blazers in points, compiling a team high 64 blocks while also slamming 144 kills on the season.
The Chargers will have a short turnaround after the weekend's matches as they will host Shorter on Tuesday evening.
