Men's Soccer Starts Campaign with Second Straight Win for First Time Since 1997

AMERICUS, Ga. | The UAH men's soccer team notched its second consecutive victory to start the 2023 campaign with a 2-1 road win at Georgia Southwestern on Sunday afternoon. UAH improves to 2-0-0, while GSWU slides to 0-1-0.

This is the first time UAH has won back-to-back games to start its season since 1997.

The Chargers and Hurricanes were deadlocked in a scoreless tie through the first 75 minutes of action on Sunday, until the Blue & White broke through with consecutive unanswered goals by Michael Weston in the 76th minute followed by Rafa Vega in the 83rd.

Weston now has nine goals in his career at UAH, while Vega registered his first career marker in the contest.

UAH allowed its lone goal in the 90th minute of the contest, which brought the contest to its 2-1 final score. Ethan Haworth picked up the win in goal to improve to 2-0-0 this season, as he recorded four saves against Georgia Southwestern.

The Chargers totaled five shots on goal as a team with five different players supplying the shots on target. Jose Bannwart and Harvey Hewson joined Haworth as the trio of Chargers to play the full 90 minutes on Sunday.

UAH returns home to Charger Park next weekend to continue the 2023 campaign, as the squad welcomes Florida Southern on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by Eckerd on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
