Men's Soccer Set for Regular Season Finales at Charger Park Friday and Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's soccer team finishes off the 2024 regular season at Charger Park with Gulf South Conference matches on Friday against Spring Hill at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday against No. 11 West Florida at 3:30 p.m.

Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free again this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union. 
 
The UAH men's soccer program will honor its 2024 senior class as part of Friday's Senior Night festivities, which includes a pregame ceremony for departing seniors Justin Alcantara, Marcus Astreos, Tyson Balleza, Malek Elbendary, Ethan Haworth, Josh Lowe, and Kieran Rowe.
 
The Chargers are still in contention for a berth to the GSC tournament with an overall record of 3-7-3 and 2-6-1 in GSC play, as UAH currently sits in 11th in the league standings with two matches to go. The top eight teams advance to the 2024 GSC Men's Soccer Championships.
 
UAH is coming off its second straight GSC victory with a 3-2 win at West Alabama in the regular season road finale last Friday, as Oli Orzechowski, Malek Elbendary and Donovan Pruitte all potted goals in the win.
 
Orzechowski continues to lead the Blue & White's offense this season with a team-high eight goals, which ranks fourth in the GSC this season. UAH also features two players with two goals this season, including Xavier Martin and Elbendary.
 
Sonny Wright has been the Chargers primary goalkeeper this season, owning a 1.72 goals against average and 32 saves across nine matches in his freshman campaign. He has totaled five or more saves in a match four times this season.
 
Spring Hill starts out the week with a 5-6-2 overall record and a 5-3-2 mark in GSC play, which is good for third in the league standings and a berth to the GSC tournament. The Badgers average 1.46 goals per game, guided by Adrian Rodriguez and Brett Stow with four goals apiece. SHC's primary goalie Martin Gomez owns a 2.00 goals against average with 45 saves.
 
West Florida enters the final weekend of the regular season with a 7-1-4 overall record and 5-0-4 in GSC play to rank first in the league standings currently. The Argos average 2.58 goals per game, led by Keegan Ancelin with a team-high 11 goals. UWF's primary goalkeeper Nicolas Mecklen owns a 1.29 goals against average and 30 saves.
 
The top eight in the conference standings look ahead to the start of the 2024 GSC Men's Soccer Championships with the tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 9 with the top four seeds hosting at campus sites.
