BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly women's soccer award winners, and UAH was represented by
Jayla Gillespie as GSC Player of the Week and
Michella Tortelli as GSC Freshman of the Week.
Â
Gillespie notches her first career GSC Player of the Week honor, while Tortelli has been tabbed the league's top weekly freshman twice this season.
Â
A native of Decatur, Alabama, Gillespie scored two goals and picked up one assist over the Chargers first undefeated road weekend since 2011, as the junior's weekend was highlighted by scoring the game-winning goal in Friday's matchup against Valdosta State.
Â
She went on to score the go-ahead goal in Sunday's win at AUM as well as recording an assist on Tortelli's game-winner in Montgomery. Gillespie leads the Chargers offense in 2024 with eight points on three goals and two assists.
Â
Tortelli scored goals in back-to-back games against Valdosta State and AUM, as she scored the Chargers third goal at AUM to seal the 3-2 victory. She has scored a goal in three of the past four games.
