Volleyball Hosting Pair of GSC Opponents on Senior Weekend

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team is hosting their final two home matches of the 2024 season when they welcome in Gulf South Conference opponents Montevallo and Auburn Montgomery on Friday at 6 pm and Saturday at 2 pm. Saturday's match against AUM represents Senior Day for the Chargers. 

The Blue & White were named the number eight team in the NCAA Division II South Region Rankings this week as one of two GSC teams in the region rankings. Tampa, Lynn, Embry-Riddle, Barry, Florida Tech, Nova Southeastern, and West Florida precede the Chargers and they rank ahead of Florida Southern and Spring Hill.

The Chargers are back in action with the second-best record in the GSC (23-5, 14-4 GSC), with an opportunity on Friday to clinch the second seed in the GSC Volleyball Championship that will be hosted at West Florida. 

UAH leads the GSC in points per set with 17.54 and maintains their top-rank in blocks (2.71 per set) and opponent hitting percentage (.142). Autumn Mayes ranks fourth in points in the GSC as she leads the Chargers in kills with 303 (3.09 kills per set) and is second on the team in digs with 332 (3.39 digs per set).

Montevallo visits Huntsville with a 10-18 (7-11 GSC) record and are the fourth-ranked team in kills this season in the GSC. Nikol Antova leads the Falcons in kills with 319 this year (3.22 per set) and tops the list among all freshmen in the league. 

Auburn Montgomery heads to Spragins Hall at 10-17 (7-11 GSC) and tied with Montevallo and Union for the seventh seed in the league standings. The Warhawks are led offensively by Maya Thompson with a .297 hitting percentage and 326 kills this season. She ranks third overall in kills in the GSC and sixth in hitting percentage. 

Following Saturday's match, UAH will head to Pensacola, Fla. for the 2024 GSC Volleyball Championship.
