No. 12 Softball Splits Season-Opening Doubleheader at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. | The No. 12 UAH softball team opened the 2024 campaign with a doubleheader split at Florida Southern on Friday night with the Chargers winning the opener 2-1 before falling in the night cap 6-2.
 
The Chargers continue their season-opening weekend in the Sunshine State at No. 10 Tampa on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. CT.

Sophomore Katie Bracken was backed by a pair of early runs in the third inning, which carried her to the victory as she allowed zero earned runs in a complete-game effort with nine strikeouts.
 
Kinley Adams led the way for the Chargers offense in a 2-for-3 game at the plate with one run and one RBI, as she drove in the first run of the game on an RBI single in the third.
 
Jada Henderson connected on UAH's lone extra-base hit of the contest, which was an RBI double in the Chargers' two-run third.
 
Lawren Hayes registered her first stolen base of the season while also scoring one run.
 
UAH has now won its season-opener in five consecutive campaigns.

After back-to-back scoreless frames from both sides to open the game, Florida Southern pushed across two runs apiece in the third, fourth and fifth innings to guide the hosts to the 6-1 win in game two.
 
Adams went 2-for-3 again in game two to give her back-to-back multi-hit performances to start the year.
 
Maddie Cartron and Hayes joined Adams with multi-hit performances with two hits apiece, as Hayes also drove in a run in the seventh.
 
Henderson recorded her second double of the doubleheader in the contest, while Kaylee Vaught went 1-for-3 and drove in the Chargers first run in the sixth.
 
Josie Thompson took the loss in the circle, as she went 3.0 innings with three runs allowed and one strikeout against the Moccasins.
