ALBERTVILLE, Ala. | The No. 12 UAH softball team kicked off the 2024 Charger Chillout, presented by Marshall County Tourism & Sports, at Sand Mountain Park with a 12-2 win over Carson-Newman and an 8-0 victory versus Lincoln Memorial. UAH improves to 5-2 overall this season.
 
The Chargers are back in action with day two of the Charger Chillout on Friday, which features matchups against Georgia Southwestern at 1 p.m. and Trevecca Nazarene at 3:30 p.m.
 
UAH 12, C-N 2 (5 inn.)
The Chargers offense was hot from the start in the first game of the 2024 Charger Chillout with three runs rallies in the first and second followed by a five-run eruption in the third in route to a 12-2 win over Carson-Newman.
 
UAH notched 14 base hits overall in the first game on Thursday, led by 
Alexa Douthitt and 
Jada Henderson with three hits apiece against the Eagles. Douthitt and Henderson also guided the Chargers with two RBI apiece, with Douthitt also plating two runs.
 
Jessica Edde and 
Sadie Thompson gave the Chargers four players with multi-hit games, as both connected on two base knocks in the game.
 
Three of the Chargers 14 hits against Carson-Newman went for extra bases, as 
Maddie Cartron, 
Alexa Douthitt and 
Kylee Smith each providing a double.
 
Katie Bracken tossed the full 5.0 innings against Carson-Newman, allowing two unearned runs with six strikeouts. She has not allowed an earned run in 29.0 innings to start the season, while improving to 4-0 in the circle.
 
UAH 8, LMU 0 (6 inn.)
Josie Thompson was electric in the circle in the second victory of the afternoon on Thursday at Sand Mountain Park, as she hurled a two-hitter over 6.0 innings with four strikeouts. She picks up her first win of the season to improve to 1-2.
 
Kaylee Vaught guided the Chargers offense against Lincoln Memorial with a team-high four RBI while going 2-for-4 at the plate. Vaught notched a walk-off RBI single in the sixth to complete the 8-0 win.
 
Maddie Cartron and 
Lawren Hayes also had two-hit games in the second contest of the day, with Hayes also scoring two runs.
 
Alexa Douthitt was strong at the plate again in this matchup, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI and two steals.
 
Overall, UAH had nine hits against LMU and drew one walk.
