Softball Falls in Slugfest at Valdosta State on Friday

VALDOSTA, Ga. | The UAH softball team dropped a high-scoring affair at Valdosta State by a final score of 20-9 on Friday afternoon to open a three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH slips to 17-8 (5-5 GSC), while VSU improves to 18-11 (10-3 GSC).

Sophomore Alexa Douthitt led the Chargers offense by tying the program's single game record with three home runs, as she went 3-for-3 on the day with two solo home runs and one two-run blast for a team-high four RBI. She now has eight home runs this season to pace UAH.

This was the first three-run home run game for UAH since Abby McKay performed the feat against West Florida on March 31, 2012.

Both Sadie Thompson and Jada Henderson connected on homers in the series opener to give UAH 13 home runs over the past four games.

Thompson's solo shot was her fourth of the season, while Henderson's two-run blast was her first in 2024.

Kaylee Vaught joined Douthitt with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI.

Katie Bracken took the loss in the circle to fall to 8-2 this season, after tossing 1.1 innings with 10 earned runs allowed and three strikeouts.

UAH and Valdosta State wrap up the three-game set on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon CT.
