Men's Basketball Routs VSU Saturday, Set for GSC Tournament First Round Home Game Tuesday

VALDOSTA, Ga. | The UAH men's basketball team earned first round hosting rights for the 2024 Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championships with a 93-78 victory at Valdosta State on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. UAH improves to 19-9 (17-7 GSC), while VSU ends its season at 12-16 (9-15 GSC).
 
Third-seeded UAH will take on sixth-seeded Christian Brothers in the GSC tournament opener on Tuesday, March 5th, at 7 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall. Tickets will be available soon through HomeTown Ticketing. More information on the 2024 GSC Men's Basketball Championships.
 
This is the sixth consecutive season the Chargers will start the GSC tournament with a quarterfinal matchup in the Rocket City.
 
Junior Jack Kostel was incredible offensively again for the Chargers, pouring in a game-high 32 points on 12-for-19 shooting from the floor and a 3-of-5 mark on three-pointers. Kostel also added a team-best six assists to go along with four rebounds.
 
A total of five Chargers went into double-figure scoring in the rout of the Blazers, with Tommy Murr (15 points), Luke Burnett (12 points), Isaac Chatman (12 points) and Daniel Saylor (10 points) joining Kostel with 10 points or more.
 
The Chargers shot 52.4 percent (33-63) from the field and a stellar 48.4 percent (15-31) on three-pointers, while holding the edge over the Blazers in bench points (27-10) and points off turnovers (19-6).
 
Saylor headlined the UAH defense with a team-high three steals and one block.
 
UAH looks ahead to its first-round matchup in the GSC tournament at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Christian Brothers.
