HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team opened its home schedule at Charger Park with a doubleheader sweep of Delta State by scores of 12-0 and 15-8 in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday. UAH improves to 16-7 (4-4 GSC), while DSU slides to 3-19 (1-7 GSC).

UAH 12, DSU 0 (5 innings)
The Chargers offense was hot from the start in the series-opener on Saturday with a six-run rally in the top of the first that carried the Blue & White to the 12-0 win in game one.

UAH had a total of six extra-base hits against Delta State, highlighted by three-run home runs by
Kaylee Vaught and
Kylee Smith. Vaught's homer was her first of the season, while Smith's was the first of her career.

Lawren Hayes led the Chargers with a 4-for-4 performance with a team-high three runs scored and one RBI out of the lead-off spot. Two of Hayes' team-leading four hits went for extra bases with a double and a triple, as UAH posted 14 base hits as a team.

Jada Henderson rated second on the team with three base hits to go along with two RBI and two runs, with one of Henderson's hits going for a double.

Maddie Cartron also had a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double and one RBI.

Katie Bracken improved to 8-1 with the win in game one, as the sophomore finished the game with 5.0 shutout innings and three strikeouts.

UAH 15, DSU 8
The Chargers came out on the winning end of a slugfest with the Statesmen, as UAH hit a program-record six home runs in the 15-8 victory to seal the series.

Caitlin Bryson,
Maddie Cartron,
Laura Harbin,
Sadie Thompson and
Alexa Douthitt. Harbin, Thompson and Douthitt home runs each came in the third inning.

Bryson ended the game with a team-high four RBI, as she hit a three-RBI triple in the six-run top of the first. She finished the contest 2-for-4 with a run as well, as both hits went for extra bases.

Maddie Cartron and
Lawren Hayes tied for the team lead with three hits apiece, as all of Cartron's base knocks went for extra bases with two doubles and one homer.

Jada Henderson and Vaught also had two extra-base hits apiece for UAH, as Henderson had two doubles and Vaught had a double and a round-tripper.

Grace O'Berry tossed the full 7.0 innings with eight runs allowed and seven strikeouts, as she picked up the win to improve to 4-1 in 2024.
