LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The UAH baseball team split the doubleheader at West Alabama on Friday, dropping game one 3-2 before completing a come-from-behind 9-8 victory in game two. The Chargers move to 20-22 (8-18 GSC) while UWA moves to 19-23 (11-15 GSC).
G1: UWA 3, UAH 2
In game one of Friday's doubleheader, the Chargers found themselves in front after the top half of the third inning thanks to a solo home run from
Austin Reed which was later matched by
Merik Carter's seventh long ball of the season in the sixth inning to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. The Chargers went into the final frame with the advantage but West Alabama would score three runs in the bottom of the ninth capped off by a walk off two-RBI single to give the Tigers the 3-2 decision.
Carter led the Chargers at the plate with a 2-for-3 appearance with one RBI, while
Austin Reed went 1-for-3 chalking up the other run for UAH.
Will Tarpley pitched eight innings and gave up no earned runs to go along with seven strikeouts. It marks the third time this season he has fanned seven or more batters in a game.
G2: UAH 9, UWA 8 (7)
In game two, both teams would score in the first inning as UAH took the lead 1-0 from a
Brock Butler home run before falling behind 3-1 in the bottom half. The Tigers lead would extend to as many as six runs before UAH would cut the lead to 8-6 in the sixth inning. A
Hugh Windle double knocked in the first run of three that the Chargers would put up in the final inning to complete the comeback and secure a 9-8 win.
Carson Villalta was 3-for-5 in the second game of the doubleheader with a trio of singles while Butler went 3-for-4 and contributed three RBI for the visitors.
The Chargers will conclude the weekend series against the Tigers with game three set to start tomorrow at 1 p.m.
