HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | UAH men's soccer team closed its home schedule the same way it opened it nearly two months ago — with a shutout victory. The Chargers upset West Alabama 1-0 on Senior Night at Charger Park.
The match remained scoreless through the first half and deep into the second, until Oli Orzechowski delivered the game-winner with just 53 seconds left on the clock.
Goalkeeper Sonny Wright was outstanding in net for the Blue and White, finishing with three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
It was a fitting way to honor the six student-athletes who played their final home match under the lights at Charger Park.
With the win, UAH remains in the hunt for postseason play. The top eight teams advance to the Gulf South Conference Championship Tournament, and the Chargers are currently tied for sixth place with Auburn Montgomery.
UAH now turns its attention to the road, beginning with a Halloween afternoon matchup at Spring Hill in Mobile. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. The Chargers will then close the regular season Sunday, Nov. 2, at 3:30 p.m. against league-leading West Florida.
