MEMPHIS, Tenn. | UAH men's soccer earned its first Gulf South Conference Tournament victory since 2019 on Sunday, defeating Christian Brothers 2-1 on the road to advance to the GSC semifinals.
The Chargers, playing in the conference tournament for the first time since 2023, fell behind in the 36th minute when CBU's Olivier Van Der Tuin scored to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead.
UAH came out strong in the second half, as Oli Orzechowski converted a penalty kick in the 46th minute to tie the match. Orzechowski struck again in the 66th minute, this time off an assist from Phillip Seifert, to put the Chargers in front 2-1 — a lead they would not relinquish.
In goal, Sonny Wright turned in another strong performance, recording four saves and allowing just one goal. Wright has now held opponents to one goal or fewer in 13 matches this season, including each of his last five appearances.
The victory sends UAH to the GSC Championship semifinals, where the Chargers will face No. 1 seed Mississippi College on Friday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. The match will be played at the Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex Championship Field in Huntsville.
