Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Florida Southern to Wrap Sunshine State Tour

LAKELAND, Fla. | The UAH softball team ended the weekend tour of the Sunshine State with a doubleheader sweep at Florida Southern with wins by scores of 3-1 and 9-3 on Saturday afternoon. UAH improves to 6-5, while FSC slides to 1-5.
 
The Chargers open up the home schedule and Gulf South Conference play for the 2025 campaign next Friday and Saturday at Charger Park against Christian Brothers.
 
Game one: UAH 3, FSC 1
Brittany Slaten led the Chargers to the 3-1 victory at Florida Southern with a pair of RBI singles in the contest, including driving in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
 
She finished the game 2-for-4 with one run scored, two RBI and one stolen base.
 
Sydney Harris drew a team-high two walks, while Gracie Ashley had a roster-best two runs scored. Jada Henderson also had one hit and one RBI in the win.
 
Lydie West and Katie Bracken combined to hurl 7.0 innings with one run allowed, one walk and six strikeouts. Bracken earned the win in relief to improve her record to 2-2, after working the final 4.0 innings with no runs allowed and five strikeouts.
 
Game two: UAH 9, FSC 4
After trailing 1-0 following the first inning, UAH tied it with one run in the second before taking the lead for good in the fifth en route to the 9-4 win over Florida Southern in game two of the doubleheader.
 
Jada Henderson went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one double and a run scored to lead the Chargers offense, as she also drew one walk in the contest.
 
Harris also turned in a two-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
 
Sadie Thompson posted two RBI and one base hit to tie Henderson for the team lead in runs driven in, as she drove in the go-ahead run in the third on a bases-loaded walk.
 
Megan Shurtz improved to 3-3 on the season with the win in relief, as she ended the game with 4.2 innings and three runs allowed.
