HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team split a doubleheader at Charger Park against visiting Valdosta State on Saturday with the Chargers falling in game one 6-3 before winning the night cap 7-4 to open a three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH moves to 11-9 (5-3 GSC), while VSU's record is now 7-11 (3-4 GSC).

The Chargers and Blazers wrap up the three-game set with the series finale on Sunday at noon at Charger Park.

Game one: VSU 6, UAH 3
UAH led for the majority of the series opener until Valdosta State scored three runs in the sixth to take the advantage on the way to the visitors' 6-3 win in game one on Saturday.

Jada Henderson led the Chargers offense with a 3-for-4 performance with one run and one RBI, as the senior had one double amongst her three base hits. Henderson's RBI double in the first scored UAH's first run of the contest.

Kylee Smith rated second on the day for the Blue & White with two base hits and one RBI, with Smith also registering a double in the contest which was an RBI double in the sixth.

Katie Bracken started in the circle for the Chargers, turning in 6.1 innings with six runs allowed and nine strikeouts. Her record slides to 4-4 with the loss.

Game two: UAH 7, VSU 4
Maddie Cartron provided a clutch grand slam as part of a five-run rally by the Chargers in the bottom of the fourth that propelled UAH to a 7-4 win in game two on Saturday.

Cartron now has six home runs in her senior campaign, which are the most by any UAH batter this season.

Henderson had her second multi-hit performance of the doubleheader, going 2-for-3 with one run and a walk.

Megan Shurtz went the distance in the circle for the Chargers, with the junior posting four strikeouts with four runs allowed over 7.0 innings against Valdosta State.
