Softball Splits Friday Doubleheader Against West Florida, Saturday Game Moved to Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon as they dropped game one 12-7 and 11-3 against West Florida at Charger Park.

The Chargers moved to 15-13 (8-6 GSC), while the Argos are now 17-8 (10-4 GSC) after Friday's pair of games.

The third game of the series originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon will now be played at Charger Park on Sunday at 1 p.m.

G1: UWF 12, UAH 7

In game one, the Argos stacked up 12 runs on 18 hits, while the Chargers scored seven runs on seven hits. UWF stretched their lead to 10-2 before the Chargers staved off the run-rule in the fifth inning on a Maddie Cartron home run. 

In the fifth and sixth innings, the Chargers totaled five of their seven runs. 

Jada Henderson led the way at the plate for UAH as she was the only Charger with multiple hits with three. Additionally, the senior had three RBI to lead the Blue & White. Lydia West also contributed an RBI with a double.

G2: UAH 11, UWF 3

Sadie Thompson had a seven RBI game in the second game of the doubleheader, which ties for second all-time with five other Chargers throughout school history. The senior from Moulton, Alabama, had a grand slam along with a three-RBI triple in the victory. 

Lawren Hayes, Brittany Slaten, Jada Henderson, Abby Flynt, and Katie Bracken also notched hits in the win, with Hayes adding another triple to the Charger win. 

Bracken's hit ended the game in the bottom of the fifth as she hit a walk-off RBI single to left field. The junior additionally got the start on the mound and pitched five innings as she struck out four and gave up just two earned runs in the victory.
