Volleyball Takes Two Five Set Victories on Day One of UAH Invitational

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team won a pair of games at the UAH Invitational presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission on Friday as they won in five sets against both Lincoln Memorial (22-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 17-15) and Nova Southeastern (25-22, 17-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-13). 

In the first match, UAH had 17 more kills than the Railsplitters and recorded 13 blocks in the match. The Chargers had 19 kills apiece from senior outside hitters Caroline Moyer and Zoe Smith to lead the way. Alex McGeehan recorded seven total blocks to lead the Chargers in the category. 

In the second match, the Chargers had three players in double-digit kills as Kayla Ward (15 kills) joined Moyer (14 kills) and Smith (10 kills). Cooper Garrett tallied 28 assists in the match, while Anna Clare Hutto had 19. McGeehan once again led the defensive side of the net as she swatted away six Shark attacks. 

Next up, the Chargers will host Spring Hill College on Saturday, September 13 at 2:30 p.m. in their final match of the UAH Invitational.
